City of Sudbury Covid Screening Policy Update
Over the past week I have fielded many calls regarding the proof of vaccination. One clause in the legislation from the province was the clause regarding coaches, officials, and volunteers having to be vaccinated or not. I have worked with city legal and public health to get clarity on this clause.
PHSD and legal have both confirmed that there is an age distinction in the legislation. If you are 18 and under and you’re entering an arena as identified in the legislation, you are exempt. If you are above, you are not.
Using the above as a starting point, legal and PHSD considered the phrase “proof of identification and proof of being fully vaccinated is not required for workers, volunteers, including coaches and officials”. As the legislation points out these are people, who are entering the facility for work purposes. Hence they are city volunteers, coaches and workers, who are covered under the City’s vaccination policy. Thus, if you are not under that category, meaning a city staff person, city volunteer you will need to provide proof of ID and vaccination.
Therefore, as of tomorrow, the following clauses have been added or revised to the attached revised guidelines reflecting the above:
NEW Coaches, volunteers, managers, association members, officials, and anyone who is on the ice, dressing or bench with the players, aged 18+ must present proof of full of full vaccination for COVID-19 (both doses) along with *identification at the point of entry to the arena. Individuals can provide proof of immunization by downloading or printing their vaccine receipt from the provincial booking portal, or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900. Individuals 2nd dose must be at least 14 days prior to attending an arena. Proof of vaccination will be accepted if the person’s name and date of birth on their identification document matches the vaccination receipt with name and date of birth and if the person is fully vaccinated.
NEW Coaches, volunteers, managers, association members, officials, and anyone who is on the ice, dressing room or bench with the players, aged 17 and under who are entering the indoor premises for the purpose of actively participating in an indoor organized sport (volunteering, training, practices, games, and competitions) are not required to show proof of vaccination for COVID-19.
NEW Participants aged 17 years and under who are entering the indoor premises of the solely for the purpose of actively participating in an indoor organized sport (training, practices, games and competitions) are not required to show proof of vaccination for COVID-19.
- All patrons/spectators – 12 and up.
- All participants actively on ice – 18 and up
- All coaches, volunteers, officials that work for user groups (not city staff or volunteers, see below) – 18 and up.
- City workers, City volunteers, City coaches, City officials. The City vaccination policy would apply to those groups.
- Participants aged 17 and under, actively participating on ice.
- All coaches, volunteers, officials that work/volunteer for user groups/teams, etc.… (not city staff or city volunteers) – 17 and under.
Please communicate the above changes to all your members and stakeholders.
